The DISMAT group researches materials under extreme conditions. Our main focus involves studying energy-related materials under intense radiation, high temperature, or extreme pressure. This exciting research is geared toward answering fundamental engineering questions about next-generation energy technologies.
Our research is mainly conducted in our laboratory at the University of Tennessee, but is augmented by irradiation experiments at the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research in Germany, the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory, and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) and High-Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) at nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
