Biography
- Cale has investigated the structural response of oxide and carbide materials under extreme conditions, such as highly ionizing radiation and high energy ball milling, through the use of neutron total scattering performed at the Spallation Neutron Source at ORNL and x-ray diffraction performed at the Advanced Photon Source at ANL and the NSLS-II and BNL. To perform these experiments, Cale has gained experience with complex oxide synthesis, precision machining and loading of sample holders, and analysis of collected data. Cale also utilizes Raman spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility, and x-ray absorption experiments to further understand the changes induced during far-from-equilibrium processes.
