Igor Gussev

Graduate Student

Biography

  • Igor M. Gussev has previously received a B.S. and M.S. degrees in Nuclear Engineering while working in the DISMAT group, and he is now pursuing a dual Ph.D. degree from University of Tennessee and Université Paris-Saclay in Nuclear Engineering and Physics. He is currently funded by an Action Doctorale Internationale (ADI 2021) fellowship from Université Paris-Saclay, France.
  • Igor’s research investigates the fundamental aspects of structural organization in complex oxides, particularly so-called weberite and weberite-type oxides and their structural response to extreme conditions, such as GeV-range swift heavy ion irradiation. This type of research involves a combined characterization approach using Rietveld and small box refinement methods to extract structural information about short-, intermediate- and long-range structural length scales using neutron and X-ray total scattering techniques. Igor’s work has provided  an insight into fundamental structural organization in A3BO7-type oxide materials with plethora of attractive physical properties and industrial uses.
