Biography
- Mason King has previously received his B.S. in nuclear engineering at the University of Tennessee while working in the DISMAT group. He is currently pursuing his M.S. degree in in the same field. He is currently funded by an NRC assistantship along with support from the N.E. Department for being a GRA and GTA for the department.
- Mason’s research is primarily focused on the amorphization of oxide type materials after swift heavy ion irradiation that have application in waste forms and other nuclear technologies. This involves irradiating materials with MeV-energy ions and then characterizing the structural modifications and disordering with X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. His work has also looked into the affects grain size has on the amorphization of a material that previously hadn’t been amorphized.
